About
Meet Otis (or Oatsy Bear). Please help/share so we can find him the BEST home! Otis is a 10-year old mixed breed dog who is looking for his next home. He is being rehomed by family due to an unexpected reaction to the newborn child. His owners were not prepared for this because he is such a friendly loving family dog and is great around kids. We had never seen him around an infant, but all kids 2 years and older are beloved by him. His family is absolutely heartbroken, devastated, and grieving the loss of their baby Oatsy Bear. Please share so we can help find him his next home, he deserves nothing less than a loving home. 🐾DOB: 12/24/2014 🐾Dog Friendly 🐾Kid Friendly (over 2 years old) 🐾No cats Otis had a rough start to life, for his first five years he was chained up outside and survived on catching bunnies/birds to eat along with food. He was thankfully reported and given to the Humane Society where his current family adopted him on Christmas Eve 2019. It took a while for him to shed that survival mode, and develop into being a loving indoor dog. Inside the home, you will not find a more loyal, loving, intuitive (if you cry, he bashes you with his head to pet him) dog. He is a dog dad. His previous owners fostered dogs, and he was instrumental in the incoming dogs adapting and feeling secure. He lived with his brother Copper and always would groom him, and they were two peas in a pod. He is great with kids (over 2 years old). He is just a big bear that lets you snuggle him, love on him, lay on him, and is just so patient. He has quirks from his initial upbringing and will need owners who can understand them and continue to work with him. Outside, he can revert back into the hunting/survival mode dog. He has a fenced in yard and will bark at the neighbor dogs and any bunny or squirrel. He will snap out of it if you put him on a leash. He has gotten so much better over the years, but it is something to note. It is safest for him to always meet new people and dogs indoors; not outside. He has slowed down and doesn’t go for long walks anymore. He is happy with a short walk around the block to sniff everything. On a few occasions while on a walk we’ve encountered dogs off the leash that run at us to play and he does NOT like unknown dogs in his space outside. He is happiest in his fenced in yard doing his BURST of a sprint, then sniffing everything. He really is just the best dog. It breaks my heart to even type this knowing I won’t see him “kerplunk” on the floor. He goes from standing to laying down in a big kerplunk. He howls and it is the cutest thing. Just sings the song of his people for no apparent reason. He needs to be consoled in all thunderstorms because he is still terrified of them (thunder chews are amazing). He will follow you around like a shadow to make sure you know you’re loved. He has such a big heart and is a go-with-the-flow dog. He is beyond loved by his family, their extended family and all he encounters. He will need patience to adjust to a new situation; he is very bonded with his previous owner and family.
